How to get around General Luna on a budget

Siargao's airport is at Sayak, about an hour's drive from General Luna. The budget move is a shared van at roughly ₱300 per person — wait for it to fill or split it with other arrivals. Drivers sometimes quote much higher for a "private" ride; that is a markup, not the standard fare. Confirm the per-person price before you load your bags.
Once you are in General Luna, most daily trips are short. Tricycles are the everyday option for hops along Tourism Road and to nearby spots — tens of pesos, agreed up front. For longer rides or when you are solo, a habal-habal (motorbike taxi) is quick and cheap. If you ride, a motorbike rental at ~₱400–₱500 a day gives you the most freedom to reach beaches and viewpoints on your own schedule. And plenty of the strip is simply walkable — the cheapest option of all.
For the broader on-island context — cash, stays and food — see the full budget travel guide and the transport guide.
Keep these ranges in mind so you know when a quote is fair. Prices shift with fuel and season, so treat them as a guide, not a fixed tariff.
| Airport van (shared, Sayak → GL) | ~₱300 / person |
| Tricycle (short hop in town) | Tens of pesos — agree first |
| Habal-habal (longer / solo trip) | Agree by distance |
| Motorbike rental | ~₱400–₱500 / day |
| Walking / your own steps | Free |
The one habit that saves the most money and avoids awkward arguments: agree the fare before you get on. Fares are not metered, so a clear price up front protects both you and the driver. For rentals, check the brakes, lights and fuel, take a photo of any existing scratches, and confirm the daily rate and what happens if you keep it longer. Bring cash — most drivers and rental shops do not take cards or GCash. See where to withdraw in the ATM, SIM, laundry and water refill guide.
